Welcome to the latest Masterhitch News blog post. Coming away from our digger buckets and attachments, we focus on ram guards and ram guard replacements that you may need. Firstly, if you’re new to the construction industry, you may need to know what ram guards are and why they are incredibly important for your construction machinery.
What are Ram Guards, and what are they used for?
Ram Guards are one of the most essential plant accessories you will need for your excavators. Whether you’re using plant equipment for construction, or a demolition project in particular, ram guards are a money saving way to get the most out of your machinery. They protect the hydraulic ram located on the arm of an excavator. The arm is used to move and operate the boom and any attachments, so it is a vital part of a digger. They ensure that the arm doesn’t over extend and leave it exposed to any potential damage.
On a building site, it would be common for an excavator to load up a dumper truck with material. The ram guards will prevent the arm from obtaining any damage, if it was to come into contact with the dumper.
Welded or bolted on?
When it comes to selecting ram guards for excavators, we can offer two options. Customers are able to choose whether they want the ram guards welded on, which would be ideal for long term, permanent fixtures, therefore benefiting customers who own their machinery. Alternatively, we can offer bolt on ram guards that would fix to the cylinder body. Bolt on ram guards only require a small amount of welding to the rod eye, but are more temporary than welding them on completely.
What other bespoke services can we offer?
Most of our external customers have already had ram guards fitted on their machines, but due to being used on a construction site, damage has occurred and they will need repairing and replacing. Here at Masterhitch, we are happy to offer ram guard replacements for any size machinery. Whether you own a PC26 to a PC210 our experienced team are more than happy to arrange ram guard replacements to be made.
Should severe damage be made to any part of the excavator, we can help with bucket and digger repairs. Especially for our sister company, H.E. SERVICES (Plant Hire) Ltd, we tend to arrange repairs for a lot of their diggers when operators have underestimated the size of the machinery, or the space on a site. If you would like us to give you a quote on this, please send any details to: email@example.com.
BuyADigger are responsible for selling any used construction machinery within the H.E Group. All companies will operate under the policy that machines are purchased from new every three years. This will therefore guarantee the best and highest quality machines for any customers. At BuyADigger, they sell a range of machines including telehandlers, skid steers, backhoe loaders and other plant equipment that would be seen on a construction or demolition site. They would then arrange a quote for their customers based on the selected machine, along with any other plant accessories, such as ram guards or digger buckets and attachments, and if international delivery is desired, the equipment can then be shipped from there.
A lot of machines that are sold are passed onto other hire companies, or individuals that are looking for cheap deals when purchasing, and select to have ram guards welded on, to keep the costs down, and increasing the longevity of the machinery.
Here at Masterhitch, we tend to do a large amount of work for our sister company, H.E. SERVICES (Plant Hire) Ltd. They are the hire division of H.E. Group and deal with the hiring of various construction machinery to external customers and plant companies, via their 10 UK based depots. Along with excavators, dumpers, telehandlers and rollers just to name a few, a customer can request an additional quote to hire out any required attachments and buckets to fit onto their machines. As the machinery is owned by H.E. SERVICES (Plant Hire) Ltd, they opt to have all rams guards welded on, instead of just being bolted on.
Diggerland Adventure Theme Parks is another sister company of ours. They have four parks based in the UK, and have over 400 construction machines across all locations. Diggerland, is the only construction themed park in the UK, and allows children and adults to operate and drive construction machinery. Over half of these are excavators that would require a ram guard, this will ensure that no damage is done to the machinery when the customers are operating them.
